Each session is designed around a full hour, tracked by the progress bar under the phrase card. You can stop, resume, or close the tab at any point — nothing is saved to an account, so there's nothing to lose by leaving early.
Nocturnal Voice runs at a single, unhurried pace built for beginners and wind-down routines alike, rather than several speeds to choose between — one consistent, gentle rhythm suits a calm listening habit better than a speed selector.
The pattern is: the phrase in the language you're learning, then the same phrase translated into the language you already speak, then the original phrase once more. Hearing the meaning sandwiched between two repetitions of the target phrase is meant to reinforce the connection without needing you to look anything up.
It's the full, readable version of the current theme: every phrase, its phonetic guide, and its translation, each with its own play button. It's there for anyone who wants to scan the theme visually, look something up mid-session, or preview a phrase before hearing it in the loop.
Audio uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis, which most browsers only allow to start after you've interacted with the page — that's why the first tap of the play button is what "unlocks" sound. If it's still silent, your browser or operating system may not have a voice installed for that language; the phrase card and word list will keep working visually either way.
Yes. Every course page has an "I already speak" selector near the top, so a French speaker can use the German course, a Japanese speaker can use the Spanish course, and so on — the phrase and its translation will always be shown together, whichever pair you pick.
No — the bracketed text under each phrase is a plain-English approximation meant to get you close, not a linguistically precise transcription. For anything you plan to say to another person, lean on the spoken audio and, ideally, a native speaker.
No account, no email, no password. Your theme and language selections live only in the current browser tab and reset when you refresh.
Not currently — Nocturnal Voice is a website designed to work in any modern mobile or desktop browser. Adding it to your phone's home screen will make it launch like an app without a separate download.
The phrase set is built so that any language can be added as both a target and a "native" option, since every phrase is stored across all languages at once. More courses may be added over time.
No plans to. Every course and the word list underneath it are meant to stay free and open, supported by advertising rather than a subscription.
