✡ The 72 Names (Shem HaMephorash)

In Kabbalah, three consecutive verses in Exodus (14:19–21) each contain exactly 72 letters. Read in a specific interlocking pattern, they yield 72 three-letter combinations. Each is paired with a suffix — -el or -yah, both meaning "of God" — to form a pronounceable Name.

Practitioners traditionally treat each one as a focal point for meditation: a short phrase held in mind to draw attention toward a specific quality, such as courage, patience, clarity, or healing.

How it's traditionally used

Pick by need, not by number. Rather than working through all 72 in order, scan for the quality you need that day and sit with that one Name.

Say it slowly, a few times. Traditionally three to nine repetitions, while focusing on the quality it represents.

Pair it with action. Meditate briefly, then act from it — have the conversation, make the decision, start the work.
