Gregorian chant is the traditional liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church, sung in Latin and still used in monasteries and churches today. Many of its phrases are standalone prayers older than the chant melodies themselves, drawn from Scripture and the Mass.
Many of these lines are meant to be sung or recited within the Mass or the Divine Office; a few are also standalone personal prayers.
Latin is kept in the original for continuity with the tradition, though translations are widely available.
Some monasteries still chant these in full daily — this is a small, introductory sample.
